Venice, Summer 2003

In August 2003, with friends of mine from Paris, we went to Croatia for a week. The first stop was Venice, from where we catch a ferry heading to a seaport in Northern Italian part of Croatia.

My stay in Venice was really short, however, I took full advantage of such opportunity to visit the main Island. I first was indeed impressed. A smallpage5-1011-thumb and beautiful historical city, its uniqueness, for it has no car, small road, small bridges, hard to believe it was once one of the largest trading center in Europe, but the extravagant architecture shows its historical wealth.

My second impression was although late August, yet still full of goddamn tourists.

During my returning journey in Venice, after 24 h non-stop partying in Croatia, I had to catch the flight at 8 am. So I decided to take a local map and visited all possible part of the city, walking with a backpack at night in Venice was really tiresome but cool.

This opportunity gave me a chance to see the city from a nightly perspective, with no tourists around. I saw local youths gathered around drink along canals, and rich wealthy young Americans driving a nice boat (#$%&) going somewhere at 11pm.

Finally, one anecdote, at 4:30 am, I was so tired that I set next to the Bus stop and fall into sleep 4 minutes prior to the first bus. 5 minutes later I woke up and the Bus, along with all the waiting passengers were gone. No one bothered to wake me up!!!

Venice was impressive.
