What is the Democracy?

The term of Democracy means in its origin people and power (rules of many). Today it is much more complex. A basic example: It requires a modern technology for the purpose of communications, a high literacy, a strong middle class and distributive institutions. In order to explain what is a democratic and state, we should ask what is its purpose, and how does it works?

In a democratic system, unlike to a totalitarian state, the political participation is not required but open and voluntary, which means people, have at least a basic political choice. Officially a democratic government is based on the consent of its people, who can participate in the election and make its law. In the Modern Pluralist Democracies, it has a faire election with universal suffrage. One person one vote is required and if they disagree they have the right to protesting, boycotting, speaking out, petitioning and voting against. And as a part of Civil Liberties it is protected by the Constitution; it also including freedom of choice in term of religion, speech, information, and economic affaire. Voluntary Associations, a written constitution that protects minority rights against majority rule.

Democratic countries have mostly a weak government; it can not act independently as in a totalitarian or authoritarian state. Because of its separation and Limits on Government Power the government must cooperate regularly with key and strong interest groups in making policy such as labor union or business conglomerate.

In the other hand democracy is also a controversial issue, caused by its historical and geographical matters. Most of liberal democratic states for instance take place only in the northern of the globe, which control also 4/5 of global wealth. In addition, they all share the idea and conception of capitalism, which is basically competition and profit. Max Weber believed that capitalist-industrial societies conflicted with the social justice demands (equity) of the people in democracies

And therefore Democracy and capitalism are contradictory.

Nevertheless, as the former British premiere minister Churchill said, democracy is not a perfect solution but it is the best among the worst.
